Prepare to be spell-bound as cast members from the hit BBC series Merlin will be swapping Camelot for Cardiff when they turn on this year’s Christmas Lights at the Civic Centre on Thursday November 12 (from 5.30pm).
In addition to illuminating the city for Christmas and the official start of Christmas shopping, the event also marks the beginning of the bmibaby Cardiff Winter Wonderland. Back for its ninth year the popular festive site features an open air skating rink, the Ice Café Bar and the John Lewis Eye.
Merlin is BBC1’s latest adaptation of the much loved mythical tale. It focuses on Merlin as a young wizard on the cusp of adulthood and his ongoing clashes with a young King Arthur.
Entertainment also comes from Barney. The world’s favourite purple dinosaur who will lead the young and young at heart in a festive sing song!
Red Dragon FM’s breakfast show presenters Kam and Sally will also be on hand to get everyone in the festive mood and the Red Hot Santa’s will return with a brassy selection of Christmas classics.
bmibaby Cardiff Winter Wonderland is one of many ways to celebrate Christmas in the capital. Other events include Cardiff Bay’s ‘On the Road to Christmas’ festivities on November 14th. Cardiff’s Calennig New Year’s Eve celebrations, with free live music stage supported by Queen's Arcade, the Admiral Family Fire Show; and the Admiral Free New Year's Eve Bus Service.
Plus Christmas shopping in the city is more exciting and easier than ever with a complete Christmas Shoppers Park & Ride service supported by Admiral and much, much more.
Councillor Nigel Howells, Executive Member for Sport, Leisure and Culture said: “Christmas in Cardiff truly is a magical time so its very fitting to have the cast of Merlin to switch on the capital’s Christmas lights.”
“bmibaby Cardiff Winter Wonderland, now in its ninth year continues to add a sparkle to the festive fun in the city, and with so much going on there is something for everyone to enjoy.”
