We at Welsh Icons have been hearing rumours of Rhodri's departure for the last few days. The Welsh Assembly website has now issued a statement saying:
"The Right Hon. Rhodri Morgan AM, First Minister for Wales, has announced that he is to stand down as leader of the Labour Party in Wales. For the Welsh Assembly Government, it is business as usual during the leadership selection process which is expected to last around seven or eight weeks.
Throughout this period, the First Minister remains First Minister for Wales. This will be the case until the National Assembly nominates a new First Minister and that nomination is approved by Her Majesty the Queen."
Apparently he will be leaving sometime in December. We'll try and keep you posted.
