Healthy Options are on the menu

Businesses across the county are being invited to cook up a storm as part of the healthy eating campaign.

Rhondda Cynon Taf Council is looking for more premises to apply for the Healthy Options standard, which proves food served is of the highest nutritional quality and has been prepared in a healthy way using good hygiene practices in a safe environment.

The county already boasts a number of premises that proudly display the Healthy Options logo in their window and stickers on their menu, after reaching the standards needed to become an accredited venue.

Healthy Options allows caterers, cafes, pubs and restaurants to prove their food is of the highest standards.

It also allows consumers to make the right choices when it comes to the meals they enjoy.

Accredited premises include:

1. Village Kitchen in Nantgarw

2. Learning Curve Coffee and Craft Shop in Talbot Green

3. The Crown Inn in Llantwit Fadre

4. Pandy Baguette Bar in Tonypandy

5. Baguette-U-Like in Williamstown

6. B&T Caterers in Ferndale

7. The Feel Good Factory in Bryncynon (Healthy Nibbles Café and Buffet Menu)

8. Llanfair Café in Penrhys

9. Esis, Treforest

10. Qualtech (QED Centre) Treforest

11. Dine in Style Pontyclun

12. The Palms Restaurant Caerphilly Garden Centre

13. Avenance Caterers @ GEAES

14. Mid shire Catering @ Ortho Clinical Diagnostics

Cllr Mike Forey, Cabinet Member for Health and Adult Services, said: “We are so pleased to already have so many premises that have reached – and maintain – the high standards needed to be awarded Healthy Options.

“But we are urging more to come forward and see if they too can cook up such a storm as we work in partnership with our businesses to offer the best-possible service, standard and choices for our consumers.”

Healthy Options is an all-Wales scheme that is managed by the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health. It has been introduced to promote the highest-possible standards in catering and, importantly, to raise the profile of healthy eating and better menu choices for residents.
