Website boost for Swansea's Parc Llewelyn

A swish new website dedicated to Morriston's Parc Llewelyn will soon be up and running thanks to a cash boost.

Swansea Council has helped the Friends of Parc Llewelyn successfully apply for £5,000 from the Awards for All Wales to fund the scheme.

The website will include a wealth of information about the group and the Morriston park as well as details on events, news updates and other developments.

Funding will also be used to pay for IT equipment, training in website maintenance and the design of marketing materials to be distributed.

It's hoped the project will help raise the profile of Parc Llewelyn and encourage the community to be become more involved.

Stephen James, Chairperson for the Friends of Parc Llewelyn, said: "We're thrilled to receive news that our application to Awards for All Wales has been approved.

"This is very important as the website element of our project will form the basis of our communications with the wider community and will provide us with an opportunity to present information about the park and our group."

The funding boost comes amidst the preparation of various other grant applications by the Friends of Parc Llewelyn to help improve the attraction.

Over 300 views from members of the public were taken on board during a consultation process.

Stephen said: "We undertook a major consultation exercise in the communities surrounding the park in 2008 with support from Swansea Council's Parks Development and Project Development and Funding teams.

"From the consultation results we have developed the Breathing Life into Parc Llewelyn project that we hope to fund from a number of grant applications and, if successful, the project will bring the park closer to meeting the needs of its surrounding communities."

Awards for All Wales is part of the Big Lottery Fund- a body that distributes half of the National Lottery good cause funding across the UK.

The fund aims to enable others to make real improvements to communities and the lives of people in need.

A bulb planting day is taking place at Parc Llewelyn on Saturday September 12.

The Friends of Parc Llewelyn will be planting snowdrops and bluebells that were bought using a Tidy Towns grant and a contribution from Swansea Council's parks development department.

The event is open to everyone and refreshments will be supplied.

Everyone is welcome and anyone looking for more information should call Stephen James on 01792 798376.
