Jones to undergo surgery

Wales and Scarlets back row forward Dafydd Jones will undergo surgery this afternoon (Monday) on the shoulder injury he picked up against New Zealand during the Millennium Stadium's Invesco Perpetual Series opener on Saturday.

Jones will miss the rest of the four-match series, with Samoa up next this Friday night before Argentina and then Australia come to town, as well as a possible further three months of rugby, but he will not be replaced in head coach Warren Gatland's now 28-man squad.

"Dafydd sprung his A/C joint on Saturday and the severity of the injury has lead to him undergoing a repair this afternoon," said Wales physio Mark Davies.

"The prospects for recovery are good and we would anticipate him returning to play early in the New Year."
