AM attends restored Gresford church house opening

Wrexham’s Assembly Member, Lesley Griffiths, has attended the official opening of the Gresford’s Grade II listed Church House, following major refurbishment work.

The AM was present at the opening of the new village resource centre, which has been re-vamped with funding provided mainly by the Welsh Assembly Government and the European Union.

The Church House, which is situated directly opposite All Saints’ Church in Gresford, was prior, to refurbishment, in a dilapidated condition but has now been restored to its former glory and turned into a valuable community resource centre.

The project has attracted funding from the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (£142,856), WREN (£13,000) and church funds.

Lesley Griffiths joined members of the local community and representatives of the organisations who funded the project at an ‘open afternoon’. Visitors from the 'Open Doors' European Heritage Weekends scheme were also welcomed to the event.

Commenting following the opening, Lesley Griffiths AM said:

“The transformation that has taken place at the Church House is amazing. This beautiful old house is located in the middle of Gresford’s Conservation Area and local people can be truly proud of what has been achieved.

“Full credit must go to everyone who has been involved in the project. Their dedication and vision has seen this refurbishment come to fruition and I am certain the building will be put to good use in the years to come.”
