Celtic Crusaders can expect 'a big Wrexham welcome' say AM

Wrexham's Assembly Member, Lesley Griffiths, has assured the Celtic Crusaders Rugby League team, they can expect "a big Wrexham welcome", when the team play in the town next year.

The AM was commenting on news that the Crusaders confirmed they will take a Super League match to Wrexham's Racecourse Ground next season.

The Crusaders website has confirmed that the game - which is expected to be against either St. Helens or Warrington - will take place at the Racecourse Ground, Mold Road in July 2010.

The club have also said they are exploring the possibility of holding Challenge Cup matches in Wrexham in the future too.

"This is fantastic news for Wrexham as once again it shows that the town is able to host top flight sporting events thanks to The
Racecourse Ground. I am pleased the Crusaders are reaching out to the many rugby league fans that live in North Wales. Wrexham Football Club are also to be congratulated for making the Crusaders fixture happen.

"I am sure the Celtic Crusaders and their travelling supporters can expect a magnificent
Wrexham welcome when they play here. Indeed, I am sure they will acquire a whole new fan base as a result of coming to the town!"

The Racecourse last hosted rugby league in 2001, when Wales lost 42-33 to England in front of a 6,373 crowd fans.

The Crusaders, will play their final home game at Bridgend against Huddersfield this weekend, plan to play the majority of matches at Newport's Rodney Parade from next year.
