Gogledd Cymru win in emphatic style

Gogledd Cymru Under 16s bagged a bonus point in beating Blues North 34-24 at Parc Erias in Colwyn Bay. Having kicked off the season with a disappointing 34-0 defeat at the hands of the Scarlets in Llandovery, the North struck back to send home the Blues with nothing more than a bonus point for scoring four tries.

Team manager Brydon Lloyd said; "It was an outstanding game of rugby played at great pace and with terrific ferocity.
"I can barely remember a game with so few errors behind the scrum. Both sides were excellent in their handling and it made for a really decent spectacle.

"Obviously we are delighted to have got a win after the loss at Llandovery. And I don't think anyone would begrudge us that, we played really well."

Lewis Barker got matters moving with two early penalties before the Blues struck back with a try from wing Cieron Thomas.

Two more successful kicks from Barker kept Gogledd in front, but once again the Blues came back with Callum Phillips popping up to cross for his side's second try.

With both sets of forwards producing a constant stream of quality ball, the two sets of backs had a number of opportunities to show their skill levels with ball in hand.

And though it was Barker's boot that dominated the early stages, after that, it was nothing short of a try fest with Gogledd Cymru crossing for four tries through Jason Blackmore, Matt Richards (2) and Elliott Crowe, whilst for the Blues, wing Bradley Morgan and Thomas once again kept the visitors in the hunt.

In the end, however, it was not enough to rescue the day, leaving Gogledd Cymru with genuine reason to smile ahead of this weekend's visit to the Blues South.
