T Llew's Ripping Yarns

Fishguard Library is hosting two events next month to celebrate the life and work of one of Wales's best loved children's writers.

Students from Ysgol Bro Gwaun will be reading poems and extracts from stories by T Llew Jones, who died earlier this year.

Later in the month the Library will be staging a craft activity session for younger children based on one of his most popular books - Barti Ddu, the Pembrokeshire pirate.

The library will also be staging exhibitions about the writer throughout October.

T Llew Jones was a leading author of children's books in Welsh writing over 80 books over the course of his long life.

Born and bred in Ceredigion he often visited schools in Pembrokeshire to read extracts from his work.

His exciting and adventurous stores - often about highwaymen, pirates ort ghosts - were lapped up by his young audiences, who were always eager to read more.

The informal readings by pupils will take place in the library on Thursday October 8th (please ring the library on 01437 776638 for times) and are free to the public.

The craft activity session - based on a pirate theme - is aimed at children aged four and over and will take place on Wednesday October 28th between 2.30pm and 3.30pm

For more details please ring the library: 01348 776638.
