Wrexham's AM at the top of the town

Wrexham's Assembly Member, Lesley Griffiths, went up in the world when she visited one of the town's top tourist attractions - the 135-foot high tower of St Giles' Parish Church.

The AM climbed the steps of the 16th century tower - which is one of the most prominent features of Wrexham's skyline - to help promote it as a tourist attraction.

The tower is one of the Seven Wonders of Wales, although in the rhyme about the 'Wonders', it is referred to as a steeple. It celebrated its 500th anniversary in 2006.

Commenting after her visit, Lesley Griffiths AM said :

"St.Giles Parish Church is the jewel in Wrexham's historic crown and this was the first time I had actually gone up the tower. It's one of those attractions on my doorstep but I had never actually made the climb until now. I wish I had gone up years ago, as the view over Wrexham, is absolutely breathtaking.

"Having been up there, its easy to see why tourists make the ascent. If any other Wrexham people haven't been up the tower and feel they could manage the 151 steps, I would recommend they go and look at Wrexham from a completely different perspective. It will definitely be worth their while."
