Crime is low in Dyfed Powys Police – see for yourself

Did you know that all crimes reported in Dyfed Powys are logged on the crime map website www.dyfedpowys.crimemapper.co.uk

You can find out the number of crimes reported in your community as well as see the types of crime being committed.

“The Crime Mapper website has been rolled out across England and Wales ,” said Deputy Chief Constable Jackie Roberts.

“However, I would add a word of caution to the statistics. As we are a low crime area the percentage increases in crime can look quite dramatic. Where there were a low number of crimes to start with e.g. six crimes, and the number rose by three crimes the statistics would show a rise of 50%.

“That percentage figure can be alarming until you look at the actual numbers of crimes committed. If you compared the actual crimes with our neighbouring forces where crime is higher you will get a better overall picture.

“Crime is falling in Dyfed Powys. Statistics for April to September 2009 compared with 2008 show that overall crime fell by 3%. Broken down further domestic burglary fell by 24%, or there were 96 fewer; vehicle crime fell by 15%, or there were 156 fewer and criminal damage fell by 10% or a reduction in 307 crimes. This in turn of course means there are fewer victims of crime in Dyfed Powys.

“This is great news for people living and working in the Dyfed Powys area. However, we are not resting on our laurels and are still striving to lower crime even further. We are investing in technology that will help us detect people who travel into our force area to commit crime as well as closing monitoring individual performance of each Division in our Force.”

You can visit the Crime Mapper web site through the Force site www.dyfed-powys.police.uk . If you are concerned about crime in your area please call you local neighbourhood policing team on 101.
