'One stop shop' for community advice

A range of local agencies came together under one roof in New Tredegar last week (Thursday 17th September) to help more people get back into work.

A special 'Community Expo' event took place at the impressive White Rose Resource Centre and the day was supported by organisations from the public, private and voluntary sectors who are all working together to tackle issues linked to unemployment and social deprivation.

Attended by over 130 local people, the Expo brought together employers and support agencies to create a 'one stop shop' for anyone wanting to find employment, enter training, improve their education or simply seeking to adopt a more active, healthy lifestyle.

In total, over 45 organisations showcased the opportunities that are available to local residents from all sections of the community. A number of surgeries and activities took place throughout the day which helped engage people of all ages and abilities.

A special prize draw also took place at the event to win a state of the art laptop computer and the lucky winner was named as Vanessa Duckworth from Bargoed who is currently working as a volunteer with Bargoed CAB.

The Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Countryside, Cllr Ron Davies stated. "It is encouraging to see all the agencies working in partnership with one shared aim to improve the lives of local people. I'm sure many residents have accessed a wealth of important information and advice thanks to the event and we look forward to repeating this success in other areas of the county borough in future."
