Seed grant will help new businesses grow

A new grant scheme has been launched to help new businesses get off the ground across the Heads of the Valleys region.

The Heads of the Valleys Business Seed Capital Fund provides financial support to help local residents set up an eligible business (excluding retail) for the first time.

The flexible grant scheme is delivered through a partnership across the local authority areas of Blaenau Gwent, Caerphilly, Merthyr Tydfil, Rhondda Cynon Taf and Torfaen. It has been designed to help residents of the Heads of the Valleys set up a full-time business for the first time, who are not able to access any other sources of funding.

"New firms need as much support as possible and this new grant scheme will be welcomed by our fledgling businesses, particularly during these difficult economic times," said Cllr Ron Davies, CCBC cabinet member for regeneration. "The council offers a range of support to local businesses and we are always happy to lend a hand, so our advice is get in touch to find out more."

Generally business start-ups in all business sectors may be considered (excluding retail). The business must be full-time and established in the Heads of the Valleys area. The individual must also be a resident of the Heads of the Valleys area.

Eligible costs could include:
  • Capital Equipment
  • ICT Equipment
  • Development of websites
  • Marketing
  • Building works to business premises
Grants of up to 50% of eligible project costs to a maximum of £2,000. Award of Grant is entirely at the discretion of Caerphilly county borough council.
