Final link marks completion of Angel Way

The final section of a major new road scheme opens to traffic this week signalling the completion of the impressive Angel Way project.

The remaining short section of road connects the main Angel Way route to Bowen industrial Estate at the southern end of Aberbargoed. The link will be opened to vehicles on Friday 25th September.

Cllr Rob Gough, CCBC cabinet member for transportation and planning, said, "This remaining section of road is the final piece in the jigsaw and we are delighted to see the whole route become fully operational. Angel Way is a true partnership success story and the road is already providing important community links as well as easing traffic congestion in Bargoed Town Centre. I'd like to congratulate all those involved for delivering such a fantastic project that is providing real benefits to the whole community."

The Angel Way scheme as greatly improved the transport network in the upper Rhymney Valley. The 2.2km route connects the communities of Bargoed, Aberbargoed and Gilfach and forms part of a wider regeneration scheme that is helping to transform the area.

The scheme, funded with an Assembly Transport Grant, has opened in sections over the last 12 months and this final link marks the completion of the road element. Final works on the Park and Ride site and the new bus station are due to be completed next month.

The main contractor for the scheme is Hochtief Griffiths Joint Venture and the project managers are Capita Symonds.
