Nominate your Pembrokeshire Sporting Heroes

Do you know someone who has excelled in sport over the last year or who has freely given their time to coaching and organising grass roots sport?

If so, get your nomination in for this year's Sport Pembrokeshire Awards.

Now in its third year the popular award scheme includes 12 categories this year:

  • Coach of the Year
  • Junior (U16) Disability Sport Award
  • Female Sporting Achievement
  • Unsung Hero
  • Male Sporting Achievement
  • Club Organiser of the Year
  • Boys (U16) Sporting Achievement
  • Team Achievement of the Year
  • Girls (U16) Sporting Achievement
  • Junior (U16) Team Achievement
  • Disability Sport Award
  • Contribution to School Sport Award

Awards for each category will be presented to the winners and two other finalists at a special presentation evening at Folly Farm in November.

Councillor Rob Lewis, Cabinet Member for Cultural Services, Sports, Leisure and Tourism, said the annual Sport Pembrokeshire Award scheme was one of the most popular in Wales and had attracted 101 nominations last year.

"This scheme is a chance for us to celebrate the high standard of skill and talent in sport in Pembrokeshire- not forgetting all the hard work and effort which also goes into it.

"It celebrates the efforts of sportsmen and women across the County - as well as the volunteers and sponsors that keep grass roots sport growing.

"I would urge everyone interested in sport to get their nominations in - and don't forget that last year's nominees are welcome again."

John Deason, Manager of Sport Pembrokeshire, said the County had a strong sporting tradition and enjoyed a network of community based sports clubs that was second to none.

"The Sport Pembrokeshire Awards is our chance to congratulate the County's top performers, while also recognising the hard work of coaches, teachers, club organisers and volunteers who make it all possible," he said.

A panel of representatives from Sport Pembrokeshire - the sports development arm of Pembrokeshire County Council - Chevron, the Pembrokeshire Sports Development Council and the Western Telegraph will decide the three finalists and winner in each category.

The deadline for nominations is Friday, 30th October. Forms can be obtained from Sport Pembrokeshire, County Hall, Haverfordwest, SA61 1TP or telephone 01437 776191. Or they can be downloaded from the website: www.pembrokeshire.gov.uk/sport
