Both Cardigan RNLI lifeboats were involved in a massive search operation of the coast between Cardigan and Newport last Monday evening – but the call turned out to be a hoax.
Also called out on the search were Fishguard lifeboat and the Rescue helicopter 122, from RAF Valley. The Coastguard had had reports of a vessel that may have been in difficulty in the area.
Volunteer RNLI crews at Cardigan launched both the Atlantic and D-class lifeboats from the Poppit HQ.
Both boats had reached Newport when all vessels were told by the Coastguard to stand down due to the call being a hoax.
