Blaenau Gwent Council warns half child safety seats checked fitted wrongly

Blaenau Gwent Council is advising parents to make sure their child car seats are safe after a recent awareness event found over half of seats checked were not fitted correctly.

Out of 60 free checks carried out by Trading Standards:
  • 17 seats passed the check
  • 31 seats needed adjusting to fit safely and correctly
  • 6 seats were unsuitable for the size or weight of the child or incompatible with the vehicle
  • 1 seat was condemned – the owner was advised to contact the manufacturer
  • 5 demonstrations were given on how to fit a child seat

Coun Keith Barnes, the Council’s Executive Member for the Environment said:

"It is vital that anyone with a child car seat makes sure it is fitted properly - this is so important for safety in case the worst does happen and there is a road traffic accident.”
