Help name new Millennium bars

Fans are being given the exclusive opportunity to name the bars on site at the Millennium Stadium as the Welsh Rugby Union launch new opening hours for the Invesco Perpetual Autumn Series.

Rugby fans can stay late and celebrate as more bars than ever before will remain open for an extra 90 minutes when Wales take on New Zealand this weekend (November 7), and at Wales v Argentina (November 21) and Wales v Australia (November 28).

Two bars on level 6 will be officially renamed as fans select their favourites from the list available at www.wru.co.uk, which includes the most popular selection 'The Baaa' and its rivals 'The Taff Bar', 'Grand Slam Bar' and 'The Three Feathers'.

Over 60,000 pints of beer and 14,000 hot snacks were enjoyed at the opening game of the RBS 6 Nations tournament at the home of Welsh rugby in February this year and Stadium bosses have responded to the demand by increasing the number of food and beverage outlets available after final whistle, opening units on the halfway line on level 6 for the Saturday afternoon fixtures.

Millennium Stadium Manager Gerry Toms said: "For some years now we have opened the bars on level three after the game and fans have gathered to soak up the party atmosphere.

"This year we will also extended our opening times on level six at the units situated on both sides of the half way line and we invite fans to stay that extra hour or so and beat the city centre rush."

"There are some fantastic views of the city through the glass windows on level six and we have spacious areas on the east and west for the fans who are thinking of staying for a beer.

"Win or lose it's always a great atmosphere here on matchday and with the inevitable sing-songs that the fans are always keen to start up, the late bars are set to be a great success."

The website poll on the official Welsh Rugby Union website allows fans to vote to name one of the bars on level six that join those named after Welsh rugby greats Gareth Edwards and Barry John on level three which will now be open for over four hours.

The WRU will launch the opportunity to name the remaining bar at the Wales v New Zealand game this weekend via the big screen.
