Loss of petrol from Pwllheli filling station

Gwynedd Council has received notification that approximately 28,000 litres of petrol has been lost from an underground tank at Pulrose Filling Station, Ala Road, Pwllheli.

It is understood that the loss occurred on 10 November 2009. Officers from the Council’s Public Protection Service have been on site and the emergency services have been notified.

The situation will be closely monitored over the coming days but the public are asked to assist by reporting any smells or other indications of petrol in the area to the Council and by avoiding the use of naked flames or cigarettes etc in the vicinity.

A full investigation will be carried out into how this loss occurred and whether it is possible to recover the lost petrol from the environment.
