Merthyr Council Tax scam

Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council’s Trading Standards Service is warning people to be on their guard as we have been notified of a suspicious telephone call regarding a Council Tax rebate.

A Merthyr Tydfil resident received an unsolicited telephone call on Thursday 29th October 2009, from an unknown source alleging to represent the Local Authority. They stated that up to £3000 could be recovered from the Authority in the form of a rebate. They asked for the resident to confirm their personal and bank details, the resident refused and ended the call.

The coucil's advice is to never provide such information. Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council is not conducting any such exercise.
