Wales v Argentina preview

Jonathan Davies admits that making his Millennium Stadium bow on Saturday against Argentina in the Invesco Perpetual Series will be a 'huge' moment for the Scarlets centre.

Davies will be gaining his fourth cap on Saturday, having played against USA and Canada in the summer and coming on as a replacement for the unfortunate Tom Shanklin against Samoa last Friday. Shanklin broke his nose after team mate Gethin Jenkins accidentally gave him a glancing blow when entering a ruck at full speed.

Davies will line-up at inside centre against the Pumas with Jamie Roberts moving to outside centre. The 21-year-old, who is deceptively quick for his size, is relishing the battle ahead.

“Argentina will bring a huge physical battle but we have what it takes to combat that. They have got a great set-piece, a good kicking game and a strong defence," he said.

“We will have to work hard and make sure we break that down. It will take a while and we just need to take our time. But, with some good execution, I’m sure we can get the result we want.

“Obviously the scoreline against Samoa wasn’t emphatic but, looking at the whole game, we were dominant in a lot of areas. It was just the final touches that went to floor and, if we put that right, I’m sure we will get the right result on Saturday.”

Davies added: “I’m really chuffed to be starting and I can’t wait to get out there. I always wanted to make my first start at the Millennium Stadium so it’s huge for me, it really is. Now I just want Saturday to come around sooner rather than later."

There are a number of £25 tickets available for the game. Tickets can be bought at the Cardiff Arms shop, Westgate Street, Cardiff, or by telephoning 08442 777 888.
