Young swimmers to earn competitive stripes

Scores of young Swansea swimmers are set to take a competitive splash for the first time this weekend.

The Active Swansea Junior Development Meet will be held on Saturday November 14 between 1pm and 4pm when local young swimmers will come together to compete.

The meet takes places at Penlan Leisure Centre and is specifically designed to give seven to eight-year-old children the chance to try competitive swimming.

Entrants will be able to participate in several recognised strokes including butterfly, backstroke and freestyle.

Christine George, Swansea Council's Swimming Co-ordinator, said: "The event on Saturday will be the first time many of these children will have swum in a competition of this kind.

"This type of competition is not only exciting but it also builds confidence in the young swimmers and encourages them to keep swimming."

More information on the meet can be found at www.activeswansea.com or by contacting Christine on 01792 635103.
