Seminars for BME artists in Wales

THE Black Voluntary Sector Network Wales (BVSNW) is proud and pleased to invite artists from Black and Minority Ethnic groups, industry professionals, Arts Development Officers and agencies to Hay-on-Wye¹s regional BME Artist Seminar and Database Launch.

The event, the third of four regional seminars, will take place on Friday, September 25 from 12pm - 4pm at The Globe @ Hay, Newport Street, Hay-on-Wye, HR3 5BG.

Working in the Arts is a viable and rewarding career path for many practitioners. And with the variety of academic courses available to artists in Wales through institutions such as the Atrium, University of Glamorgan's flagship creative and cultural centre, new opportunities are becoming available to practice as skilled professionals in a fiercely competitive market suffering from the effects of the current recession.

BVSNW recognises the need for alternative avenues to build skills and the capacity of emerging Black and Ethnic Minority artists. Multi-cultural Wales has contributed to the ever more popular and lucrative creative and cultural industry and Wales has provided some of the most innovative talent and skills in the fields of arts, education and culture.

Hence, BVSNW's initiative, the BME Artist Development Programme, funded by the Arts Council of Wales. The project aims to deliver a Regional Artist Seminar for Artists of Black and Ethnic Minority Heritage living or practicing in
Hay-on-Wye, Brecon, Monmouthshire and throughout Wales; creating a unique opportunity for community based artists to receive first hand information on the services, training, opportunities and support that is available to all artists in Wales.

It is also an opportunity to meet these service providers and through workshops, present the barriers and issues that affect artists when accessing these services and looking for work and ensuring that information
is available on the full wealth and diversity of talented artists practicing in Wales.

Free buffet lunch is included with entertainment showcased by a few of our very own artists from BVSNW's Artist Database. Though this is a free event, interested parties are advised to book their place in advance due to limited numbers.
