Llanelli residents can discuss outlawing age discrimination with local MP Nia Griffth at a special meeting later this month.
The event is being organised by merged charity Age Concern Cymru and Help the Aged in Wales.
Says spokesperson Mared Williams:
“We want to hear from older people in the Llanelli area who have experienced age discrimination – maybe they’ve been turned down for a bank loan or insurance because of their age, or been told by the health service that they’re too old for a particular type of treatment.
“We’d like anyone who has had such an experience to get in touch with us, with a view to coming along to meet Nia Griffith MP with us later this month. Ms Griffith sits on a Parliamentary committee that is looking at new discrimination laws, and she wants to hear first-hand accounts of why age discrimination should be outlawed. Please get in touch – you can help us to make ageism illegal.”
If you live in the Llanelli area and are interested in attending this meeting on 18 September, please contact Kathy Lye on 029 2043 1570, or email kathy.lye@helptheagedwales.org.uk
