A brand new choir is about to be launched in the Caerphilly county borough. The Caerphilly Community Chorus will be a new mixed voice choir aimed at adults and young people aged 15 years and above. If you are interested in joining the choir there will be no formal auditions, potential choir members can go along to a free taster session before making a commitment.
The taster session will take place at 7.30pm on Friday 18th September at the Van-guard Centre, United Reformed Church, Van Road, Caerphilly, which is just a hundred yards from the Twyn car park in the centre of Caerphilly town. The Caerphilly Community Chorus will then continue to rehearse on Friday evenings from 7.30pm to 9.00pm.
The choir's founder and musical director Nigel Jones, who recently retired as County Choral Animateur with the Caerphilly Music Service wants to use his retirement as an opportunity to use his experience and expertise in the wider community. Nigel said, "I hope that many people with, or without, previous choral experience will come and join us. The choir's repertoire will include classical works, world music, music theatre and popular songs and, of course, Welsh music – we aim to cover a wide range of styles. Having rehearsals on Friday evening is a great way to start the weekend on a high note!"
