RNLI lifeboats from St Davids and Fishguard launched yesterday afternoon (24 September) following concerns for two divers last seen off Strumble Head. The two men, believed to be local, were located by an RAF helicopter some hours later and were winched to hospital.
The inshore RNLI lifeboats from both stations conducted coastline searches, whilst the volunteer crew on board the all-weather RNLI lifeboats searched further out to sea. Fishguard’s inshore and all-weather RNLI lifeboats launched at 5.10pm, followed an hour later by the inshore and all-weather RNLI lifeboats from St Davids.
The search was co-ordinated by Milford Haven Coastguard and involved Coastguard Rescue Teams and Rescue Helicopter 169 from RAF Chivenor.
Jim Phillips, RNLI Lifeboat Press Officer at St Davids says:
‘This incident demonstrated excellent team work between all the search and rescue agencies involved, which helped to bring about a successful conclusion.’
