UWIC showed no signs of summer rustiness as they romped to a six-try, 51-13 blitz over Newbridge to top Division One East.
The students, fresh from a three-month holiday, found life difficult in the first half as they took a slender 13-10 lead at half-time.
But their homework must have been done as 26 points from fly-half Simon Humberson including a second-half try, allowed them to get into their stride.
Blackwood also crossed half a dozen times through Gavin Rees, Gareth Rosby, Mark Guilt, Dean Gibbs, Mike Georgriu and a penalty try in their comfortable 43-7 win against Tredegar.
Ystrad Rhondda edged a high-scoring 11-try thriller to beat Merthyr 44-30 while Bargoed, inspired by 15 points from fly-half Steffan Jones and Rumney also grabbed bonus points at Beddau and Caerphilly respectively.
The games were much tighter in Division One West where only Whitland managed to ran in four tries for a maximum over Bridgend Athletic.
Aled Jones set the hosts on their way before Lee Glanville, Ryan Michael and Dion Thomas as well as 11 points from the boot of Aled Davies sealed a 31-10 success.
Trailing 17-0 at the break, Bridgend did muster a late period of pressure and Rod Jones scored a late consolation with Stuart Morris adding the conversion and a penalty.
Stuart Jenkins grabbed a brace of tries and Stuart Wall also crossed for Felinfoel in their narrow opening 24-21 win over Builth Wells.
The scores were tied 14-14 at the interval but a vital contribution of nine points from Jonathan Griffith swung the match in the home side's favour.
Corus emerged victors 33-18 at Llangennech who scored tries in either half from Chris Franches and Adam Warren, Carmarthen Athletic defeated Cwmyllynfell 20-10 and Tonmawr returned victorious 21-16 at Bonymaen.
