Gwynedd A' Level Results 2009

Gwynedd Council is extremely pleased with the success of Gwynedd pupils in the A Level examinations this year.

Dewi R Jones, Head of Education for Gwynedd Council said:

“It is a pleasure to report that A level results for Gwynedd schools are very good once again this year and the young people are to be warmly congratulated for their commitment, hard work and success.

“The percentage achieving grades A-E across all subjects [97.7%] and grade A [25.2%] is similar the national averages [97.6% and 25.0%] and compare favourably with previous years’ results. What is also very encouraging is the fact that the A-E percentage is 100% in a significant number of the subjects offered across the schools.”

“In addition, the percentage gaining grades A-E in the Advanced Subsidiary examinations is higher than the national average.

“I would also like to take the opportunity to thank the teachers for their hard work and professionalism and the parents for their support.”

Whilst noting the need to interpret raw examination statistics with care, he referred to exceptional success in individual subjects.

“The performance in every subject is good but the results in Welsh, History, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and Biology, where the number of A grades is high, is to be praised. In addition, more than 75% of students achieved grades A-C in English, French, Music, Drama, Geography, Sociology, and Law,” added Dewi Jones

Councillor Liz Saville Roberts, the Education Portfolio Leader for Gwynedd Council said:

“I am very happy with these results - we should be very proud of the success of all our young people across the ability range. A level students in Gwynedd schools are to be warmly congratulated. I would also like to thank the teachers for their hard work throughout the year and for preparing the students so thoroughly for the examinations.”
