Discover the Stories of Wentwood Forest

Families with a taste for a good woodland walk can part in a free story trail event with activities to be held in Wentwood Forest this month.

This self guided walk entitled through some of Monmouthshire's most glorious woodland will give people a chance to join in woodland related activities and have some fun.

'Edwood Greener' is a creature who lives in woodlands and likes to eat all kinds of things including rubbish. The story introduces 'Edwood' who has a special tail and likes to live in Monmouthshire woodlands. People can follow a short walk and try out a series of activities to help walkers to discover more about Wentwood Forest.

The event takes place on Thursday 28th May 2009 from 2pm until 4pm with the last person to set off at 3.30pm. It starts from Wentwood Lodge Car Park, Wentwood Forest, off the Usk to Llanvair Discoed road.

Coed Cadw (The Woodland Trust), adventa and Monmouthshire's Countryside Service are working in partnership to help conserve woodlands and encourage more people to visit them.

Jon Winder of Coed Cadw said:

"This family event will encourage people to help look after our woodlands and get the message across that it is important to deal with rubbish in a responsible way. It should be a fun afternoon with lots of family activities to enjoy.''

Signposts will direct people to the car park from the Usk to Llanvair Discoed road, map ref ST 417 945 where the walk will start and finish.

Participants are advised to wear strong footwear and to bring wet weather gear. Although this is a 'barrier free' event there is some rough ground to manoeuvre. Dogs are welcome on a lead.
