Round Up: Principality Premiership

A last-minute Dean Gunter penalty helped high-flying Pontypridd to a narrow victory over Newport at Sardis Road.

Scrum-half Rhys Davies and lock Grant Hurrington scored the Ponty tries as they came back from 17-0 down after early Newport tries from Gareth Wyatt and Andy Brown.

Sean Conner thought he had won it for the visitors with a 78th minute penalty, before Gunter’s late heroics won it for the hosts, 21-20.

Aberavon recovered from a 32-3 half-time deficit to snatch a dramatic late draw with Llanelli. The hosts stormed back with second half tries from Chris Davies, Jason Tipuric and a brace from wing Paul Bamsey after Llanelli had two players sin-binned. All that was left was for fly-half Jamie Murphy to slot over a last minute penalty to seal the draw, 32-32.

James Dixon was the star for Swansea, scoring two tries and landing a drop-goal to seal a 33-24 win over Carmarthen Quins.

Glamorgan Wanderers had Scott Sneddon to thank for a nervy win at Cross Keys. Sneddon booted 14 points as the Wanderers scraped a 19-17 win.

Llandovery ran riot at Pontypool, running in ten tries as they smashed the league’s bottom side 68-21. Centres Rhys Williams and Joe Ajuwa and flanker Jonathan Edwards each scored two tries for the visitors, while fly-half Cerith Rees landed nine conversions.

Bedwas produced a strong second-half performance to overcome Ebbw Vale at Bridge Field. Phil Sargent scored twice and Stuart Thomas once as the hosts triumphed, 21-3.
