Chuck Berry to play the Brangwyn

One of the most iconic names in Rock and Roll history has been lined up to play at Swansea's Brangwyn Hall.

The legendary Chuck Berry will be performing at the venue with his St Louis Band for the final show of his UK tour on Wednesday December 2 at 7.30pm.

Berry is famous the world over for tracks including Jonny B Goode, Memphis and Maybellene and his music is said to have been the inspiration for bands such as The Beatles and The Rolling Stones.

The 83-year-old will be joined on stage by special guests.

Cllr Graham Thomas, Swansea Council's Cabinet Member for Culture, Recreation and Tourism, said: "Chuck Berry is one of the most influential and well-known musicians of all-time and his performance at the Brangwyn Hall will be a real coup for the city.

"We're fortunate to have such a fantastic venue so close to home and the calibre of acts being attracted is helping raise Swansea's profile internationally.

"The concert will be fabulous forerunner to the series of performances planned for December to celebrate Christmas."

Christmas favourite The Messiah returns to the Brangwyn Hall on Saturday December 19 to mark the 250th anniversary of Handel's death and Salvation Army Carol Concerts have been lined up for 3pm and 7pm on Sunday December 20.

A Christmas by Candlelight concert is taking place on Wednesday December 23 from 7.30pm and will again feature the Chamber Orchestra of Wales, conductor Alwyn Humphreys and guest soprano Ros Evans.
