A major drainage investment scheme is currently being undertaken on the main artery road through the Cynon Valley in an effort to reduce the risks of surface water flooding.
Over the years the A4059 has been prone surface water during wet weather conditions and Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Highways Division is currently investing £18,000 from its maintenance programme in an effort to eradicate the problem.
This is the second week of the programme that involves cleaning and localized replacement of more than 600 metres of filter drain material.
The scheme is programmed to be completed within the next four weeks weather dependent. Works are also being restricted to hours between 9am and 3pm in an effort to minimise disruption to motorists.
The work is progressing well and will hopefully eliminate the ongoing problem of standing surface water on this particular stretch of road.
The Council’s Cabinet Member for Transport and Customer Care Cllr Andrew Morgan explained: “We are well aware of the dangers being caused to motorists and pedestrians due to surface water gathering at this particular area of the A4059 and the Council’s £18,000 investment in this particular stretch of highway will hopefully put an end to this problem.
“The Council’s remains committed to investing in the massive highway infrastructure of the county borough and this is the latest scheme in an ongoing programme of works which have already amount to more than £4million.”
