Two separate call outs to vessels in trouble made for a busy day for Tenby’s all-weather lifeboat on Monday (26 October). The first call out came just after midday to a broken down five-metre speedboat, followed by a second incident to a yacht taking on water at 4.45pm.
The volunteer RNLI crew were first called into action following concerns that the speedboat was in danger of being swept on to rocks near Ord Point, Caldey Island. The owner raised the alarm by contacting Milford Haven Coastguard who requested the launch of the Tenby all-weather RNLI lifeboat. The speedboat was towed from danger and taken to Lydstep Haven where the owner was able to safely recover the boat.
Just a short time after her return, the Tamar class RNLI lifeboat was called to action again to assist a sailing yacht taking on water whilst on passage from Swansea to Milford Haven. The vessel got into difficulty nine miles east south east of Caldey Lighthouse. An RNLI crew member was place on board the yacht to relieve the exhausted crew and ensure a safe tow back to Tenby.
