1,800 calls for information on recycling

During the first day of changes to the refuse collection system, the staff at Caerphilly County Borough Council's customer contact centre took over 1,800 calls from members of the public, generally the calls were to clarify information about which bins were being collected.

Cllr Lyn Ackerman, Cabinet Member for the Environment and Housing said, "This is an enormous change to bring about and we are delighted the public are responding so well to the recycling challenges. Over 80,000 households are now able to recycle their rubbish at their doorstep.

These two important changes to fortnightly collections and food waste collections will have a big impact on our recycling rates. We have been set tough targets by the Welsh Assembly Government and we need to take positive steps to increase the amount of waste we recycle, otherwise we face tough financial penalties in the future."

Top three queries were:- 1. What day is my refuse, recycling, food waste caddy collection date? 2. Confirmation of days of collection 3. Ordering a brown bin

Residents should call 01443 866533 for any questions regarding the new collection system.
