Update regarding the fatal road traffic collision on the A55 eastbound carriageway prior to the Conwy tunnel during the early hours this morning (Thursday, 22nd October):
The Eastbound carriageway has now re-opened.
North Wales Police received a report by the Fire and Rescue Service at 01:47 that a collision had occurred between a car and a lorry on the eastbound carriageway just before the Conwy tunnel.
North Wales Police can confirm that the male driver of the car sustained fatal injuries following the collision.
Two passengers from the car were taken to Ysbyty Glan Clwyd by ambulance with serious injuries. One is believed to have sustained life threatening injuries.
The driver of the lorry sustained minor injuries.
Police are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information should contact officers at the Western Roads Policing Unit on 101, or 0845 607 1001 (Welsh line) or 0845 607 1002 (English line).
