Environmental champion Rhys Cycle has been on his travels again and was overjoyed at the major eco-friendly work being carried out in two Rhondda Cynon Taf schools.
Accompanied by members of the Council’s Streetcare Awareness Team Rhys visited Hafod Primary School in Trehafod and Glantaf Infants in Rhydyfelin.
At Hafod Primary the children were so enthusiastic about the importance of recycling that they’re hoping to motivate the entire community to get on board. Shortly they hope to visit a recycling centre and see how waste can be used in the future.
During the visit to Glantaf the Streetcare team were impressed at the school’s community garden which has a greenhouse made out of recycled plastic drinks bottles along with compost bins and an allotment for fruit and vegetables.
The youngsters also enjoy visiting his award-winning website, The World of Rhys Cycle which can be found at www.rhyscycle.co.uk.
Everyone in Rhondda Cynon Taf can recycle from home through the kerbside recycling scheme. Recycling bags can be obtained free from your collection crew or by calling 01443 494700. You can also pick them up from libraries, Communities First offices or the Council’s One4All centres or alternatively leave a sticker/note on your bags requesting more before you run out.
For more information on recycling, visit the council’s website www.rhondda-cynon-taf.gov.uk, send an email to recycling@rhondda-cynon-taf.gov.uk or call 01443 494700.
