Head teachers from schools across the Caerphilly county borough have been given an important briefing about the implications of swine flu at a special meeting held at Penallta House recently.
Dr Gill Richardson, the Public Health Director for the Caerphilly county borough, delivered a comprehensive presentation about the current position and information relating to the possible spread of the disease.
Dr Richardson also provided practical advice and guidance around recognising symptoms, infection control, immunisation and the implications of any outbreak on the school community.
The meeting also provided an opportunity for the teachers to ask questions or raise concerns about any issues relating to Swine Flu and its control. Dr Richardson was able to offer useful tips and advice concerning cleansing standards and good hygiene practices.
Cllr Phil Bevan, CCBC cabinet member for education, said, "The meeting was an excellent opportunity for us to work with our partners in the health service to deliver important messages to our teaching staff. We all need to be vigilant and ensure everyone is up to date with the latest advice and guidelines to help limit the risk of infection – especially within the school community."
