The Bishop of St. Davids has welcomed the opening of the new Welsh Assembly Government offices in Aberystwyth.
“It’s vital that the Assembly relates directly to people all over Wales and that they can identify with it,” Bishop Wyn Evans said. “The new complex – in the heart of rural Wales - will make that much easier for people in West and Mid Wales.”
The Bishop said he was particularly pleased that the main focus of the new regional HQ would be rural and countryside affairs.
“The issues facing Welsh farming and society in rural areas are especially acute in West Wales,” he said. “Let us hope that their presence here leads to an even greater understanding on both sides.”
The move was also welcomed Rural Life Adviser, Rev. Eileen Davies, who said:
“This is great news for Ceredigion, the heart of rural Wales. Decentralising from the Welsh Assembly Government in Cardiff ensures that those involved in the field are at first hand, closer to the farmer. Personnel are not only names but faces, communication is personified and better relationships can be formed between all involved in our rural areas.”
