Rhondda's Field Of Remembrance

A thousand crosses will be displayed in Rhondda Heritage Park later this month to remember all those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.

In support of The Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal there are plans to create a commemorative Field of Remembrance at the Trehafod tourist attraction.

From 23rd October a thousand crosses will be available from the Park’s reception for a small donation. Schools, colleges, societies or members of the public are invited to add their crosses to show their support and help make a strong visual display made up of rows of crosses and scarlet poppies until 11th November.

All proceeds will go to the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal to help those affected by the effects of human conflict.

At 11am on Monday 2nd November members from the Royal British Legion will be marking the event at Rhondda Heritage Park. A short service will be followed by the Last Post together with the dipping of British Legion, Regimental and Welsh standards. This is a free event and everyone is welcome.

Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture and Recreation Cllr Robert Bevan said: “I warmly welcome the news that the Rhondda Heritage Park is introducing the new Field of Remembrance this year and think it is a very fitting tribute to all those who died for our freedom.

“Not only will we pay tribute to those who fell in both world wars and subsequent conflicts, but we also think of those people – from our own communities – who are currently serving in the armed forces in foreign lands today.”

Those wishing to attend the service should contact Rhondda Heritage Park on 01443 682036 or by emailing reception@rhonddaheritagepark.com. Those wishing to add a cross to the display are requested to make a donation to the Appeal.

Rhondda Heritage Park is open 10am-4pm Tuesday – Sunday and admission is free. For further details visit www.rhonddaheritagepark.com
